Sea freight accounts for the vast majority of cargo movements around the world, with over 90% of world trade being transported on the water, wherein three quarters of all sea freight is containerized. The global container fleet comprised some 5,992 active ships with total capacity of 21,115,603 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) as at August 2017, according to Alphaliner.
